Frykitty offers an intriguing idea for a public art project: install full-size bronze statues of Portland's mayors around downtown, or in a progression. One refinement: the Mayors could be installed near places connected to them in Portland history. For example, Mayor Rushlight's statue could go in front of the old Police Block, dedicated during his administration. Mayor Baker's statue could go in front of a music hall site, perhaps mounted arm-in-arm with two bronze showgirls. Mayor Ivancie's statue could go in front of the Portland Building, which despite its massive internal flaws does look like an important civic building, and was completed on time and on budget during his administration. And Mayor Clark's statue could be installed at the Goose Hollow MAX stop, or in front of the fountain before which he posed for that famous poster. Even Mayor What's-His-Name's statue could be out in public, now that the statute of limitations has expired.
