Captain Oswald Travaillot still interests me. He left his ship at the bottom of the Willamette in front of D Street (now NW Davis Street) in 1852. It was still there when he died in Barkerville, British Columbia in 1879. Jewel Lansing writes that it was still there in 1882. How long did his ship sit on the riverbed? It was still there in 1928, when divers from the Pacific Bridge Company rediscovered it.
